Congress MP Manish Tewari has demanded an urgent discussion in the Lok Sabha on the escalating border tensions and substantial trade deficit with China. On Thursday, Tewari submitted an adjournment notice, emphasizing the necessity of addressing these pressing issues.

In his letter to the Secretary-General of Lok Sabha, Tewari articulated concerns over ongoing border clashes, specifically mentioning China's recent dismissal of the Seva tunnel inauguration and claims over Arunachal Pradesh. He urged the suspension of routine House procedures to prioritize this debate.

Tewari also called on the government to divulge details about measures being taken to safeguard India's territorial integrity amid Chinese aggressions. Highlighting the trade disparity, he pointed out that India’s trade deficit with China exceeded USD 85 billion in 2023-24. The Congress MP stressed the need for government transparency on both the border situation and trade deficit.

The ongoing Parliament session is set to continue discussions on the Union Budget 2024-25, presented on July 23, and the Jammu and Kashmir budget for the same period. Key Union Ministers will also lay papers today, including a statement from Minister Sukanta Majumdar on the status of recommendations from the parliamentary standing committee on Home Affairs.

The budget session, which commenced on July 22, is slated to conclude on August 12.
