Orbán's Controversial Speech: A Call for a New World Order
Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán delivered an anti-Western speech declaring the EU is on the brink of collapse. He voiced support for Donald Trump’s presidential bid, hinted at a shift to an Asia-oriented world order, and criticized the West's foreign policies. Orbán's remarks draw significant criticism and stir controversy.
Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, on Saturday proclaimed that the European Union was heading towards oblivion during a critical, anti-Western address in Baile Tusnad, Romania. He argued that Europe has forsaken its own interests by unconditionally following the US's pro-Democrat foreign policy.
Orbán, who endorsed Donald Trump's US presidential bid, warned of an imminent shift towards an Asia-centric world order, citing China, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia as emerging dominant centers. He also accused the US of orchestrating the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions without providing evidence.
Orbán's comments come amid escalating strains with EU partners, following his unilateral peace missions to Moscow and Beijing. He doubted Ukraine's prospects of joining NATO or the EU, insisting it will become a buffer state. Throughout the Ukraine conflict, Orbán has consistently diverged from EU consensus, refusing military aid to Kyiv and stalling sanctions against Russia.
