Congress MPs Shashi Tharoor and Jebi Mather visited the family of Nevin Dalvin, one of the students who tragically drowned in a flooded basement at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. The MPs met the grieving family at RML Hospital, where the bodies of the deceased students are kept.

Speaking to ANI, Tharoor condemned the mishap, calling it shameful and urging the government to provide compensation. 'The dreams of these youth and the hopes of their families have been shattered,' Tharoor stated. He emphasized the need to prevent such incidents in the future.

Congress MP Jebi Mather criticized the government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for their failures, yet refrained from politicizing the issue during the ongoing mourning period. Mather highlighted the recurring nature of such mishaps due to inadequate facilities in coaching centres, emphasizing the importance of solidarity with the bereaved families.

Congressman Manickam Tagore called for accountability and discouraged petty politics. He noted recent infrastructure-related incidents, including a fatality at Delhi airport, as symptomatic of broader issues. Tagore advocated for practical solutions to these systemic failures.

Meanwhile, student protests continued in Karol Bagh, expressing frustration over the lack of response from MCD officials. UPSC aspirant Sahil voiced demands for accountability, better information, and compensation. Students pointed out biometric access issues that contributed to the tragedy, demanding alternative safety measures.

In response to the incident, MCD sealed 13 coaching centre basements violating building by-laws. Delhi Police, meanwhile, arrested seven individuals, including the coaching centre's owner and coordinator, on charges of culpable homicide. Authorities also confirmed investigations into MCD's role and requested protesters to maintain order.
