AAP MLAs and councillors staged a protest outside the Lieutenant Governor's Secretariat on Monday, calling for the sacking of the MCD commissioner. They accused the commissioner of failing to issue necessary directions for desilting drains, leading to a fatal incident caused by flooding.

The protest followed the tragic deaths of three civil service aspirants at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar after heavy rains last week. The lawmakers demanded immediate suspension of the commissioner and action against those responsible for the negligence.

Dilip Pandey, an AAP MLA, pointed to a Supreme Court verdict and criticized the BJP-led Centre for shifting bureaucratic control to the lieutenant governor. The party claims the incident could have been avoided if officials heeded desilting orders issued between February and June.
