Opposition leaders on Thursday criticized the Modi government following an incident of water leakage in a lobby of the new Parliament building. Congress' Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore released a video on X showing water seeping from the roof and a bucket placed to catch the dripping water. He also submitted a notice for an adjournment motion to discuss the issue in Lok Sabha.
Tagore remarked, 'Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside,' highlighting the urgent weather resilience issues in the new Parliament building, just a year after its completion. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and TMC MP Mahua Moitra also expressed their discontent over the incident, pointing out the reliability of the old Parliament building compared to the new.
Several leaders criticized the lack of proper design and construction quality in the new Parliament infrastructure, further raising concerns over the BJP government's construction agenda. Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain added that even a brief period of rain caused significant problems in the capital, questioning the new building's integrity and effectiveness.
