Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi, visited the landslide-ravaged areas of Wayanad on Thursday. Expressing his deep pain, Gandhi described the event as a 'national disaster' and called for an urgent, comprehensive action plan.
Former Congress MP from Wayanad, Gandhi termed the devastation a 'terrible tragedy for Wayanad, Kerala, and the nation.' He stressed the emotional difficulty of interacting with affected families, emphasizing his determination to ensure survivors receive necessary assistance.
During their visit, the Gandhis toured the Chooralmala area, local hospitals, and relief camps, promising support and comfort. Highlighting the frequent occurrence of such calamities, they committed to closely monitoring ongoing relief efforts and called for an effective long-term strategy.
