Kamala Harris's Campaign Raises Record-Breaking $310 Million in July
Kamala Harris's campaign raised $310 million in July, driven by small-dollar donations after President Joe Biden's endorsement. This achievement, surpassing Donald Trump's $138.7 million for the same month, marked the campaign's total fundraising to exceed $1 billion. A significant portion of this came from first-time donors.
Kamala Harris's campaign declared on Friday a monumental $310 million raised in July, largely fueled by small-dollar contributions following President Joe Biden's endorsement.
The unprecedented amount doubled Republican rival Donald Trump's $138.7 million haul for the same period, elevating the Harris campaign's total fundraising past the $1 billion mark, an historic first for any presidential campaign. Initially, July seemed grim for Democrats as major donors paused contributions to urge Biden out of the race. However, Harris's nomination revitalized voter and donor enthusiasm.
According to the campaign, over $200 million of the July total was collected in the week after Biden's endorsement, with two-thirds of these funds coming from first-time donors and 94% being contributions of $200 or less.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris for President's Campaign Manager, stated, "This is a history-making haul for a candidate poised to make history this November. The tremendous outpouring of support signifies that the Harris coalition is mobilized, expanding, and ready to defeat Trump this November." The campaign reported having $377 million in cash by the month's end, $50 million more than Trump's campaign reserves of $327 million.
Despite Trump's July fundraising showing a 24% increase from June's $111.8 million, and despite an assassination attempt on Trump in mid-July expected to boost contributions, Harris's entry has significantly shifted the race dynamics. While previous polls showed Trump leading over Biden, including in crucial battleground states, recent surveys indicate a much tighter contest.
