The CPI(M) on Friday demanded an impartial probe into the rioting and arson at Gandatwisa in Tripura's Dhalai district, which rendered around 165 families homeless. The party also called for adequate compensation, security, and peace initiatives.
A CPI(M) delegation visited the violence-hit area on Thursday and interacted with the affected people. State secretary Jitendra Chaudhury highlighted that the incidents, including the death of a college student and looting of shops and houses, occurred in the presence of police.
The government must undertake peace initiatives to restore confidence among the tribal and non-tribal people. Chaudhury urged Chief Minister Manik Saha and top officials to visit the area immediately and assess the situation.
