Chouhan Accuses Congress of Anti-Farmer Policies
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized the Congress party for neglecting the agricultural sector since Independence. He highlighted the Modi government's initiatives aimed at enhancing the sector, including offering fertilisers at subsidised rates and purchasing crops at remunerative prices. Chouhan also dismissed allegations of budget cuts and inadequate MSP procurement.
On Friday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, alleging its longstanding 'anti-farmer' stance. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Chouhan pointed out that Congress had consistently neglected the agriculture sector post-Independence.
In contrast, Chouhan emphasized the Modi government's commitment to farmers over the past decade, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure remunerative prices for crops and provide subsidized fertilisers. He underscored six key priorities: boosting farm production, reducing farming input costs, providing disaster relief, promoting diversification, value addition, and natural farming.
Chouhan also refuted claims of budget cuts in the agricultural sector, citing an increased budget outlay from Rs 27,663 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,32,470 crore for 2024-25. He assured opposition parties that constructive suggestions for farmers' welfare would be considered.
