Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday commended the Union Cabinet's approval of eight access-controlled national highway projects with a combined length of 936 km. Shah lauded the efforts on social media platform X, emphasizing how Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enhanced India's infrastructure to world-class standards over the past decade.
'Further advancing this vision, the Union Cabinet today approved a Rs50,655 crore megaproject to develop eight National High-Speed Road Corridors across Bharat. These corridors will tap the nation's economic potential by significantly reducing travel time and creating jobs. My heartfelt congratulations to Modi Ji on this decision,' Shah added. Prime Minister Modi also reacted positively, noting the project's potential to catalyze economic growth and boost employment.
Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X, 'TRANSFORMATIVE boost to India's infrastructure landscape! The Cabinet's approval of eight National High-Speed Road Corridor Projects at an expenditure of over Rs50,000 crore will have a MULTIPLIER EFFECT on our economic GROWTH and boost EMPLOYMENT opportunities. It also underlines our commitment to a futuristic and connected India.' The approved projects include various high-speed corridors like the 6-lane Agra-Gwalior highway and the 8-lane Nashik Phata-Khed Corridor near Pune, among others.
In Ayodhya, a 68-km 4-lane access-controlled Ring Road will be developed at a total cost of Rs3,935 crore to alleviate city congestion, specifically on numerous National Highways. In Guwahati, a vital gateway to Northeast India, a 121-km ring road will be created with a total investment of Rs5,729 crore, comprising several sections to improve connectivity.
The Indian Government has recognized the critical importance of infrastructure development to economic growth. Over the past ten years, the length of National Highways has surged from 0.91 lakh km in 2013-14 to 1.46 lakh km currently. The pace of awarding and constructing National Highways in the country has also seen substantial growth in the last decade, according to a government statement. (ANI)
