To Lam Named General Secretary of Vietnamese Communist Party

Vietnam's President To Lam has been officially named the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the country's most significant leadership role, following the death of his predecessor, Nguyen Phu Trong. The announcement was made on Saturday.

Lam took over the responsibilities on July 18, one day prior to Trong's passing, as the latter's health swiftly declined. Party delegates have shown their unanimous support for Lam's appointment, which was confirmed at a press conference.

In his address to the delegates, Lam pledged to honor and build upon Trong's legacy, emphasizing his commitment to advancing the socioeconomic development of the Southeast Asian nation.
