Trump Challenges Harris to Debate Amid Electoral Controversy
Republican nominee Donald Trump has proposed a debate with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News for Sept. 4. Harris's campaign has not confirmed the event, and Fox News has yet to comment. The debate would occur in Pennsylvania with a full arena audience.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump proposed to debate Democratic U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris on Fox News on Sept. 4, but the Harris campaign did not confirm the event.
The rules will be similar to the first debate with President Joe Biden, who has since dropped his reelection bid, Trump said in a post on Truth Social late on Friday. He added that this time it would have a 'full arena audience' and take place in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. Harris's campaign offered no comment, and Fox News did not immediately respond to requests.
Trump and Biden had previously agreed on a second debate set for Sept. 10 on ABC News, which Trump suggested should be moved to Fox. Trump's proposal followed a Democratic National Committee advertising campaign, launched Friday, taunting him by alleging that he was afraid to debate due to his stance on abortion.
After Biden exited the race on July 21 and endorsed Harris, Trump initially said he wouldn't debate her because she wasn't the official candidate. As of Friday, Harris secured the necessary delegate votes to clinch the Democratic nomination.
Harris had previously expressed her readiness for a debate after Fox News proposed holding it on Sept. 17. Trump's post about the debate was briefly removed before being reposted, missing out his previous proposal for a 'major town hall gathering' if Harris was 'unwilling or unable to debate'.
