BJP's Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta has been appointed the new leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly, the party announced on Monday.

Previously a Delhi BJP president, Gupta will take over from Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, who resigned after winning a seat in the Lok Sabha. The decision was made in a legislative party meeting at the state BJP office, attended by all seven BJP MLAs, Delhi BJP co-incharge Alka Gurjar, president Virendra Sachdeva, and general secretary (organisation) Pawan Rana.

Party's chief whip Ajay Mahawar proposed Gupta's name, and his election was unanimous. Gupta will have a short stint in the role with the upcoming Delhi assembly elections scheduled early next year.
