Trump to Break Silence with Upcoming Palm Beach News Conference

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced he will hold a news conference on Thursday afternoon at his Palm Beach residence. This marks his first public appearance since Kamala Harris, his Democratic opponent, selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Trump did not specify if the 2 p.m. ET (1800 GMT) session would address specific topics or if he would entertain questions from the press. Nevertheless, the event could shift the media spotlight back to Trump after several days of Harris dominating the headlines. Harris and Walz drew large crowds in Michigan and Wisconsin rallies on Wednesday, demonstrating a renewed enthusiasm among Democrats following Joe Biden's campaign withdrawal last month.

Harris's ascent has significantly altered the race dynamics, erasing Trump's previous lead over Biden in opinion polls and generating substantial fundraising for the Democrats. Harris and Walz are set to meet auto workers in Detroit on Thursday, leveraging support from the United Auto Workers union. However, campaign stops in North Carolina and Georgia were canceled due to Tropical Storm Debby. Both campaigns will continue to focus on strategic swing states like Arizona and Nevada. Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, also canceled events due to the storm and has been closely shadowing Harris and Walz to present a contrast.

Reflecting on media engagement, Trump has noted Harris's absence in media questioning since she launched her campaign, while he continues to engage predominantly with right-leaning media outlets. On Wednesday, Trump called into the 'Fox & Friends' program and responded to questions from its hosts.
