The opposition Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharadchandra Pawar launched the 'Shiv Swarajya Yatra' on Friday, marking the start of its campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The event follows closely on the heels of the ruling NCP’s 'Jan Sanman Yatra'.
The NCP (SP)'s yatra began at the historic Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Junnar tehsil of Pune district. Maharashtra NCP chief Jayant Patil emphasized that the yatra aims to 'bring back people's government' in the state.
Patil stated that the purpose is to expose the 'corruption and chaos' allegedly created by the current Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP government. He also highlighted the MVA's strong performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls, winning 30 out of 48 seats, compared to the Mahayuti’s 17. Meanwhile, a minor accident involving a crane at the yatra launch event went viral on social media, although no leaders were injured.
