In an escalating controversy, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar and West Bengal BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul visited the home of the post-graduate trainee doctor who was found dead at R G Kar Medical College. Majumdar condemned the incident, emphasizing that the government must take responsibility.
'A very shameful and horrific incident has happened. This is a repeat of the Nirbhaya case in Delhi,' remarked Majumdar. He insisted that the occurrence underscores the deteriorating law and order in West Bengal, and called for a CBI investigation, accusing the police of attempting to conceal facts.
'Police tried their best to ensure the family remains silent and suppress all evidence,' he added, suggesting that asking for CM Mamata Banerjee's resignation would impinge on one's dignity. Paul also demanded a CBI probe and a re-postmortem by a Central Government hospital, alleging that the state system would bury the truth.
