IOC President Thomas Bach to Step Down in 2025
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, has announced he will step down at the end of his second term in 2025. Despite being asked to continue, Bach stated he would not seek to extend his mandate. The new president will be elected in March 2025.
Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee, has announced that he will not seek to extend his tenure beyond his second term, which ends in 2025.
Bach, a German lawyer who has been at the helm since 2013, confirmed on Saturday that he was asked to stay on but will adhere to the Olympic charter that limits the presidency to 12 years. 'New times are calling for new leaders,' he stated during the IOC session.
The election for Bach's successor will take place in March 2025 in ancient Olympia. So far, no member has openly campaigned to take over the role.
