FBI Investigates Alleged Iranian Hack of Trump Campaign Communications
The FBI is investigating allegations that Iran hacked into the internal communications of Donald Trump's presidential campaign. The investigation began in June. Both Trump's and Joe Biden's campaigns were reportedly targeted. Iranian officials deny the claims, while the FBI and other sources provided details of the incidents.
The FBI announced on Monday it is probing claims that Donald Trump's presidential campaign communications were hacked, attributing the breach to the Iranian government.
According to Trump, Microsoft informed his campaign that Iran had gained access to a campaign website, albeit only obtaining publicly available information. The FBI is also investigating a parallel hack targeting the campaigns of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, as reported by the Washington Post.
The investigation commenced in June, suspecting Iranian involvement in the data theft attempts from two U.S. presidential campaigns. The Iranian government has refuted the hacking allegations. Meanwhile, a Microsoft report revealed attempts by Iranian-linked hackers to breach the account of a high-ranking campaign official, expanding the probe's scope.
