In a significant development, Lt Governor VK Saxena has appointed Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gahlot to hoist the national flag at the state's Independence Day celebration, officials confirmed.
The decision, which bypasses several senior government leaders, is expected to trigger another episode of conflict between the AAP-led administration and the LG's Secretariat.
According to a written communication from LG's secretary Ashish Kundra to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, arrangements are being made for Gahlot to lead the event at Chhatrasaal Stadium.
Earlier, the Delhi government's general administration department refused to follow department minister Gopal Rai's instruction to have Education Minister Atishi host the flag-hoisting ceremony.
