The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of former prime minister Khaleda Zia will stage sit-in protests nationwide, demanding a trial against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina for “genocide.” The sit-ins are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in front of BNP offices across the country.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP's joint secretary general, announced the protest plans on Tuesday. The BNP will also hold a prayer session on Friday to commemorate Khaleda Zia’s upcoming birthday and to honor those who lost their lives in recent violence.

Since mid-July, anti-quota protests in Bangladesh have resulted in over 560 deaths. An interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has taken over, and discussions with political parties are ongoing to ensure free and fair elections.
