In a significant political development, two-time MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi has abandoned the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The announcement was made in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who welcomed Sukhi into the party fold, praising his dedication to the welfare of the underprivileged.
Chief Minister Mann stated that Sukhi's inclusion will strengthen the AAP. National General Secretary Sandeep Pathak was also present during the induction. A doctor by profession, Sukhi was first elected as an MLA from the Banga seat in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district in the 2017 Assembly election and re-elected in 2022 on an SAD ticket.
Sukhi's departure from SAD comes at a turbulent time for the party, which is currently experiencing unprecedented internal rebellion. Sukhi cited Chief Minister Mann's commitment to establishing a medical college in Nawanshahr and tackling corruption as the reasons for his decision to switch allegiance.
