An Army captain and a terrorist were killed in the higher reaches of Doda district, with a civilian also injured in the encounter on the eve of Independence Day.
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences, denouncing the deterioration of the Jammu region's situation.
People's Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter Iltija Mufti also shared their grief and criticism of the ongoing violence.
People's Conference chief Sajad Lone called for an end to the violence and justice for the perpetrators.
