Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lauded the Election Commission's announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting its importance in fortifying democracy and ushering in a new era of development for the region.

Shah urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to vote in large numbers, emphasizing that their participation is crucial for sustaining peace, development, and securing a bright future for the youth.

'I welcome the announcement of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir made by the Election Commission of India today. In the last 10 years, the Modi govt through a series of relentless initiatives, has created a new era of peace, development, and strengthening democracy in J-K,' he stated on 'X'.

The assembly elections, set to be held in three phases starting from September 18, mark the first time in nearly a decade that Jammu and Kashmir will elect a government following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
