New Appointments Announced for Key Parliamentary Committees

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has appointed new MPs to various parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Public Undertakings, Public Accounts Committee, and Estimates Committee. The appointments include members from Congress, BJP, DMK, and other parties, with terms effective from August 14, 2024, to April 30, 2025.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced new appointments to key parliamentary committees on Wednesday. Among the significant appointments, Congress Lok Sabha MPs Tariq Anwar, Kodikunnil Suresh, and DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi are included in the 22-member Committee on Public Undertakings, effective from August 14 for the 2024-25 term, ending on April 30, 2025. Bharatiya Janata Party MP Baijayant Panda has been named chairperson of the Committee.

The official release stated that 15 MPs from Lok Sabha, including Congress MP Tariq Anwar, BJP MP CP Joshi, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, and Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh, will be part of the committee. Seven Rajya Sabha MPs also join the committee, such as Shiv Sena MP Milind Murli Deora, AAP MP Narain Dass Gupta, and BJP MP Surendra Singh Nagar.

The Committee on Public Undertakings is tasked with examining the reports and accounts of public sector undertakings (PSUs). Its role includes reviewing PSU performance and assessing its impact on the economy and citizens' lives. The announcement also included the naming of members for six new Parliamentary Committees, including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which reviews government expenditure, and the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes.
