The National Conference (NC) and the Congress have finalized an agreement to contest 51 and 32 seats respectively in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls. The announcement came during a joint press conference held at NC president Farooq Abdullah's residence after extensive day-long negotiations.

One seat each has been assigned to the CPI(M) and the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP). The seat-sharing formula includes a ''friendly contest'' on five seats in the Union Territory. Detailed lists of the seats each party will contest and their respective candidates will be released soon.

NC president Farooq Abdullah highlighted that the alliance is aimed at combating forces that are dividing people across the country. He noted that the INDIA bloc was created with the goal of resisting communal divides. AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal added that the alliance aims to protect the 'soul' of J-K from the BJP's policies, promising a government focused on unity and progress.
