The Samajwadi Party has lambasted the BJP-led administration in Madhya Pradesh over last month's violence in Chhatarpur, attributing it to the police's neglect of Muslim community concerns.
In an official statement, a party leader announced that Akhilesh Yadav, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, will visit Chhatarpur to show solidarity with the community.
The unrest began on August 21 amid protests against derogatory comments made by Ramgiri Maharaj about Islam. Authorities have since charged more than 150 people and demolished two homes, including that of the main accused.
A Samajwadi Party delegation recently visited Chhatarpur, accusing the state government of bias and unjust actions during the unrest.
SP spokesperson Yash Bhartiya criticized the police for not registering a case against Ramgiri Maharaj, stating that their inaction fueled the violence.
Bhartiya further accused the government of exploiting communal divides for political advantage and condemned the demolition of accused individuals' homes.
He added that Akhilesh Yadav aims to prevent the unjust targeting of innocent people during his forthcoming visit.
