Dick Cheney Backs Kamala Harris Over Trump in Tight Presidential Race
Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney announced he will vote for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. elections. This follows a similar move by his daughter, Liz Cheney. Several Republicans disenchanted with Trump's leadership are showing support for Harris in a hotly contested race.
Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney announced on Friday that he will vote for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris over Republican former President Donald Trump in the upcoming Nov. 5 U.S. elections. This decision comes shortly after his daughter, Liz Cheney, made a similar statement.
Trump and Harris are currently in a tightly contested race, with a debate scheduled for next week. Cheney's endorsement is noteworthy as some Republicans, dissatisfied with Trump's leadership, have started backing Harris. Among them are dozens of former staffers of Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.
Dick Cheney, who served as vice president under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2009, has faced criticism for his role in the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Liz Cheney, a former congresswoman, has also criticized Trump, particularly regarding the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters. In his statement, Dick Cheney emphasized the importance of placing the country above party allegiance and described Trump as a significant threat to the republic.
