In the wake of the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, Jawhar Sircar has announced his resignation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Rajya Sabha. He cites this crisis as a key reason for his decision.
Speaking to ANI, Sircar expressed his frustration at the lack of action by the state government, particularly regarding the transfer of former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh. Sircar described the transfer as a 'reward,' which sparked a people's movement.
'If action could have been taken on the complaints against the principal from the first day itself and suspended the principal, they would have lost half their strength,' Sircar said. He criticized the state for mismanaging the issue and called for decisive action from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
