Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday expressed deep concerns over recent violent incidents in the state and urged all stakeholders to strive for peace. In an official statement from the Raj Bhavan, Acharya emphasized that 'Peace and people's cooperation are the only means that bring societal development,' noting that Manipur, known as the 'land of jewels,' has been pivotal for India's growth. He lamented that recent turmoil has disrupted the efforts of central and state governments to restore peace and normalcy.
The governor disclosed that he has been in constant communication with public leaders, students, and the general populace to foster peace. He reiterated that violence is not the solution and called for collective efforts to address the issue. 'In his bid to solve the problem with public support, the governor is constantly engaging with community leaders and students,' the statement read.
Additionally, the governor appealed to all societal segments, including student organizations and public leaders, to collaborate for peace and help Manipur achieve new developmental milestones. Meanwhile, the state government imposed an internet ban starting Tuesday to prevent the spread of disinformation via social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. According to the government, the ban will last until September 15.
