The opposition in Goa has leveled serious accusations against Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, alleging he is prioritizing GST exemptions for casinos instead of recovering pending dues from these establishments.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao questioned if Sawant aims to show that Goa's tourism is solely reliant on casinos while ignoring other tourism initiatives. He further criticized the government for failing to take action against casinos from other countries advertising in Goa in violation of local laws.
Despite owing Rs 349 crore in dues, casinos are reportedly seeking GST exemptions due to their role in attracting tourists. Alemao argued that this apparent favoritism undermines other tourism policies related to homestays, wellness tourism, and ecotourism.
