President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday expressed her heartfelt condolences on the passing of CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury. Yechury passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following a prolonged illness. He was 72.

Murmu remembered Yechury as a dedicated ideologue who won friends across party lines, making a significant impact as a student leader and later in national politics and as a parliamentarian.
