The CPI(M)-led Left Front orchestrated a protest march to the Kolkata police headquarters on Friday, seeking the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal over alleged mishandling of a rape and murder case involving a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital on August 9.
CPI(M) state secretary Mohammed Salim stated that they would organize a 30-hour sit-in if blocked from reaching Lalbazar. Salim accused the police commissioner of deliberately mishandling the probe, demanding his resignation under the scrutiny of the state government.
The protesters, armed with posters and placards, chanted slogans against the TMC government and called for Goyal to be interrogated by the CBI, which is currently investigating the RG Kar case. However, the march was halted near the police headquarters as steel barricades were erected to impede their advance.
