Omar Abdullah Confident as J&K Assembly Elections Begin

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed confidence in winning the assembly elections as voting began in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Conference, in alliance with Congress and supported by SP, faces a turnout of 11.11% in the first phase, with results expected on October 8.

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed his optimism about the party's chances in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections as voting commenced on Wednesday. Speaking to ANI, Abdullah remarked that the UT had been anticipating this moment for a decade.

"It's a good day; we urge the people to vote for National Conference as it benefits J&K. I've spoken to several constituents, and National Conference is gaining substantial support from all sections. We are hopeful of a victory. We've awaited this day for 10 years and look forward to October 8, when the results will be announced," Abdullah noted. He is contesting from both Ganderbal and Budgam assembly constituencies.

The National Conference and Congress are jointly contesting the elections in J&K, with support from the Samajwadi Party. The first phase of voting saw a cumulative voter turnout of 11.11% by 9 am, according to the Election Commission of India.

According to the ECI, voter turnout in Kishtwar was 14.83%, followed by Doda at 12.90%, Ramban at 11.91%, Shopian at 11.44%, Kulgam at 10.77%, Anantnag at 10.26%, and Pulwama at 9.18%. The polling is being conducted under tight security arrangements, starting at 7 am and concluding at 6 pm.

In this initial phase, 24 assembly constituencies across the Union Territory are voting, with 16 seats in Kashmir and 8 in Jammu. Subsequent phases of voting in J&K will take place on September 25 and October 1, and vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
