Kamal Haasan Criticizes 'One Nation, One Election' Proposal

Kamal Haasan, actor and founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam, criticized the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, calling it dangerous and flawed. He argued it could lead to dictatorship and loss of freedom. Haasan also discussed his political journey and the need for equitable distribution of parliamentary seats, especially for Tamil Nadu.

Kamal Haasan, the renowned actor and founder of the Makkal Needhi Maiam party, lambasted the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal on Saturday, describing it as dangerous and fundamentally flawed. According to Haasan, this concept could have potentially led to dictatorship, a loss of free speech, and the dominance of a single leader, had it been implemented in 2014 or 2015.

Speaking without naming specific leaders or parties, Haasan emphasized that the nation narrowly avoided such an outcome. He equated the threat to a disease more virulent than the Coronavirus, pointing to examples in Europe and Russia without specifying particular countries.

The MNM chief also called for an equitable distribution of parliamentary seats, warning against the reduction of seats for Tamil Nadu due to population control achievements. He announced his alignment with the DMK for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections and reiterated his commitment to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
