Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saket Gokhale on Monday condemned the central government's failure to provide flood relief to West Bengal, accusing it of discriminatory practices.
In a post on X, Gokhale branded the Union government's move as 'shameless discrimination,' highlighting that Rs 675 crore was distributed among Gujarat, Tripura, and Manipur, but West Bengal received nothing.
'Lives in Gujarat are important for Modi but the lives of people of Bengal mean nothing to him,' Gokhale questioned, suggesting a bias against West Bengal by Prime Minister Modi.
The central government released Rs 600 crore for Gujarat, Rs 50 crore for Manipur, and Rs 25 crore for Tripura from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to assist affected areas devastated by heavy monsoons.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged Prime Minister Modi to address the severe flooding impacting 50 lakh people after the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) released water, exacerbating the crisis in south Bengal districts.
