Kamala Harris on Identity, Mental Health, and Marijuana Legalization
In a podcast with former NBA stars Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her racial identity, her stance on mental health, and her support for legalizing marijuana. The discussion aimed to reach more male voters, especially Black men, as she campaigns for the upcoming election.
Vice President Kamala Harris addressed Donald Trump's comments on her racial identity, stressing the importance of mental health, and voiced her support for marijuana legalization during a podcast interview with former NBA stars Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, which aired on Monday.
The interview took place at Harris' Washington home as part of her campaign strategy to engage more men, particularly Black men, according to a Reuters/Ipsos survey from Aug. 21-28. The poll showed that 41% of male respondents would vote for Harris, compared to 47% for Trump. Approximately two-thirds of Black men supported Harris.
When Barnes mentioned Trump's confusion over Harris' racial identity, Harris responded confidently, stating, "I'm really clear about who I am and if anybody else is not, they need to go through their own level of therapy, that's not my issue." Harris also emphasized the need to decriminalize cannabis due to its disproportionate impact on Black communities.
Harris shared her perspective on the critical flaws in America's approach to mental health, saying, "We have acted as though the body starts from the neck down, instead of understanding we need healthcare also from the neck up." She talked about her own mental health practices, including daily exercise and cooking.
