Bright Strides: Illuminating Safety with Fluorescent Cattle Strips

The Uttar Pradesh government has launched an initiative to equip stray cattle with fluorescent strips to prevent road accidents. Funded by the Cow Protection Fund, these strips, placed on the animals' horns and necks, aim to make them visible at night. The project addresses both road safety and stray animal management.

The Uttar Pradesh government has revealed a new plan aimed at preventing road accidents involving stray cattle. This initiative involves affixing fluorescent strips to the horns and necks of these animals to enhance their visibility to drivers, thereby reducing nighttime road mishaps.

Funds for this project have been allocated from the state's Cow Protection Fund, with district magistrates and the Animal Husbandry Department tasked with the initiative's execution, as stated in an order by Principal Secretary K Ravindra Nayak. The fluorescent strips are designed to reflect vehicle headlights, ensuring that the cattle are easily seen on busy roads.

The plan is part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the significant issue of stray animals in Uttar Pradesh, which is home to 15 lakh stray cattle. The move also intersects with political dialogue, having been a contentious subject during past elections.
