Omar Abdullah Calls for Resolution to Restore J&K Statehood

Omar Abdullah, Vice-President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, emphasized the need for a governmental resolution to restore the region’s statehood. He advocated for a cooperative relationship with the union while focusing on serving all citizens, irrespective of political affiliations, in the forthcoming government.

In a striking proclamation, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah stated on Wednesday that forming a government in the region must be swiftly followed by a resolution aimed at restoring statehood. Abdullah underscored the necessity of engaging in talks with national leaders, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, to ensure this transition.

Highlighting the importance of regional unity, Abdullah stressed the government's intent to work peacefully with the Lieutenant Governor for the populace's welfare. "Rather than inciting conflict, we strive for tranquility and collaboration, all while pushing towards regaining the state's rightful status," Abdullah declared emphatically.

Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's congratulatory gesture towards the NC alliance, Abdullah expressed gratitude and reiterated their mutual interest in fostering a cooperative atmosphere. Yet, he dismissed speculations regarding the government's agenda or leadership roles, stating these decisions would precede further discussions after the party and alliance leaders are chosen.

Addressing queries about party leadership and political roles, Abdullah advised patience, reinforcing that intra-party negotiations were not public spectacles but internal matters. "We must first settle on our leadership before diving into discussions about ministerial duties, including the Deputy Chief Minister's appointment," he clarified, emphasizing the coalition's received mandate and ensuring governmental benefits extend to all demographics, inclusive of non-supporters.

Abdullah assured that the forthcoming administration, encompassing all political parties, would prioritize inclusive governance. "Our administration will not disregard the voices of those who either abstained or supported other parties. We are determined to represent every citizen, guaranteeing fair governance and a shared vision for the region," he concluded.
