In a significant political shift, C P Yogeeshwara, a prominent BJP leader and former minister, has joined the Congress party. The Congress intends to nominate him for the upcoming bypolls in the Channapatna constituency scheduled for November 13.
His decision comes after resigning as an MLC and from the primary membership of BJP. Yogeeshwara met with Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar before making the official switch, indicating strategic shifts within the state's political landscape.
The bypoll in Channapatna became necessary after its representative, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, was elected to the Lok Sabha. Initially, Yogeeshwara sought BJP's support but shifted to Congress, citing his significant influence and winnability in the region.
