On Wednesday, Karnataka witnessed a robust voter turnout of 76.9% in by-polls held across three Assembly segments, according to state election officials. The electoral battle, requiring 770 polling stations, featured a total of 45 candidates competing in Shiggaon, Sandur, and Channapatna.
In Channapatna, voter enthusiasm was palpable with a record turnout of 84.26%, surpassing Shiggaon's 75.07% and Sandur's 71.47%. These by-polls were necessary following the election of local representatives to the Lok Sabha in May, involving prominent figures from various political dynasties.
Police ensured airtight security across the constituencies, with the elections spotlighting major showdowns between the ruling Congress and BJP, and in Channapatna, the JD(S)-NDA alliance against Congress. The races held both symbolic and personal significance, underlining the influence of political family legacies.
