Abhijit Mukherjee, son of the late former President Pranab Mukherjee, has returned to the Congress Party, marking the end of his four years with the Trinamool Congress. The former Lok Sabha MP was ceremoniously welcomed at the party's state headquarters, with notable figures, including AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir, present at the event.

Following his re-induction, Mukherjee expressed remorse over his prior defection to the TMC in 2021, describing it as a misstep. He underscored Congress's inclusive approach to politics, stating it accommodates people of all backgrounds, a principle he believes to be crucial for national unity.

Mukherjee's realignment with the Congress is anticipated to aid in consolidating its support base in West Bengal.
