Pope Francis was admitted to the Policlinico Agostino Gemelli hospital on Friday morning for further treatment of ongoing bronchitis, the Vatican confirmed. This is the latest in a series of health concerns for the 88-year-old pontiff, including previous bouts of influenza.

Despite his illness, the pope has maintained an active schedule, holding meetings at the Vatican residence. Notably, on Friday, before his hospital admission, he met with Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, Cardinal Luis Tagle, and Mark Thompson, CEO of CNN.

Pope Francis, whose ailments have included falls at his residence causing minor injuries, has a history of being treated at Gemelli hospital. The facility is well-equipped for papal care, having previously hosted Francis for hernia surgery in June 2023.
