In a notable first, four German citizens vacationing in Kerala participated in their country's federal elections by casting postal votes at the German Honorary Consulate on Monday.

The Goethe Institut confirmed that Rainer Helbing, Uta Helbing, Evelyn Kirn, and Veronika Zhuravleva exercised their democratic rights for Germany's snap elections set for February 23. This occasion marks a historical first for German voters from Kerala.

The early elections were necessitated by the collapse of Germany's Traffic Coalition involving the Socialist Party, Free Democrats, and Greens. Electoral tensions have heightened, influenced by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and alleged foreign meddling, contributing to an already polarized atmosphere.
