Russel, undergoing cancer treatment, succumbed to a heart attack at Chennai Apollo Hospital post-surgery, as confirmed by party sources. His political journey began in 1981, marked by a run for the Changanassery legislative assembly seat in 2006 and impactful roles including district panchayat member and president of the Changanassery Urban Bank.
This year, he was reinstated as the Kottayam district secretary on January 4. V N Vasavan, Minister for Cooperation and Registration, extended condolences, highlighting Russel's enduring influence and dedication to public service.
