The debate over the three-language policy has heightened tensions between Tamil Nadu and the Centre, with Janata Dal (United) leader Neeraj Kumar criticizing Chief Minister MK Stalin for alleged political posturing on linguistic issues. Kumar urged Stalin to focus on language development rather than seeking political mileage.

Kumar emphasized the importance of linguistic diversity as a cultural asset, stressing that while Hindi holds the status of a national language, other languages like Tamil deserve equal respect. He highlighted that both the state and Centre share responsibilities regarding educational funding, underlining the necessity of cooperation for progress.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan joined the fray, rebuking Stalin's concerns as 'imaginary' and politically motivated. Addressing the media, Pradhan insisted that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 does not impose any language, countering claims that it mandates Hindi in Tamil Nadu. The controversy has further intensified the ongoing political tussle as the 2026 elections approach.
