A political storm is brewing in Delhi's corridors of power as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of removing portraits of B R Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh from the Chief Minister's office. This allegation, spearheaded by prominent AAP leaders, has been vehemently denied by the BJP, which asserts that the opposition is attempting to distract from upcoming CAG reports highlighting corruption during the AAP administration.
The controversy gained traction when Leader of Opposition Atishi raised the issue during the first session of the newly constituted Delhi Assembly. She criticized the BJP, accusing it of an anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh stance. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal expressed that the removal of Ambedkar's photograph has deeply hurt millions of his followers.
In response, BJP ministers have rejected these claims, insisting that portraits of national icons remain displayed. They argued that AAP's accusations are a desperate attempt to divert attention from the CAG report to be presented soon, which could bring fresh legal troubles for the opposition party.
