The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday announced its decision to field Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora as its candidate for the upcoming Ludhiana West assembly bypoll. This move has led to speculation from opposition parties in Punjab that AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal could replace Arora in the Upper House.
Arora's nomination means he would have to resign from the Rajya Sabha should he secure victory in the bypoll, the date for which is still pending. This vacancy was a result of the tragic death of AAP's Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound when his licensed firearm accidentally discharged.
Despite opposition claims, AAP has rejected the speculation as unfounded rumors. Neel Garg, AAP's Punjab spokesperson, emphasized that the decision about Rajya Sabha membership will be made after the bypoll results. In the interim, the party's focus remains on the Ludhiana West constituency.
