West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has come forward with serious allegations against the BJP, accusing the party of enrolling fake voters in the state's electoral rolls with supposed assistance from the Election Commission. She has called for an indefinite protest outside the poll body's office if these issues are not addressed.
Speaking at a TMC conference, Banerjee raised concerns over the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar as the chief election commissioner. She claimed that the BJP is attempting to influence this constitutional authority to manipulate voter lists, a method she believes has been used in other states such as Delhi and Maharashtra.
Banerjee mentioned her readiness to lead a movement akin to her past 26-day hunger strike during the anti-land acquisition protests in 2006. She stressed that she would not permit the BJP to undermine the democratic process in Bengal by bringing in 'fake voters' from other states.
