Bhupesh Baghel Criticizes BJP Over Alleged Misuse of ED Raids

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has criticized the BJP for using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to conduct raids without election commission approval. Baghel claims these actions are attempts to discredit him amidst an ongoing investigation into a multi-crore liquor scam, where authorities recovered Rs. 33 lakhs from his residence.

On Monday, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing them of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to orchestrate raids at his residence without the necessary permissions from the Election Commission. Baghel termed the raid as a mere attempt to tarnish his image across media outlets.

Despite the recovery of Rs. 33 lakhs, Baghel dismissed the amount as 'insignificant' and criticized the authorities for allegedly attempting to defame him. "They invaded without ECI's permission, and merely to orchestrate media hype," Baghel remarked, adding that such tactics reflect BJP's pressure on investigating agencies to harass opposition leaders.

As ongoing probes scrutinize alleged illicit dealings in Chhattisgarh's liquor trade, Baghel, confident of his innocence, alleged that BJP's frustration stems from his newly acquired position as the General Secretary. The ED's recent searches, which spanned 14 locations, implicated Baghel, his son, and others in a multifaceted inquiry involving government officials, politicians, and liquor companies.
