In a scathing critique, AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam has condemned the Assam government's decision to centralize the issuance of Aadhaar cards to the District Commissioner's offices. He alleges that the BJP has facilitated the entrance of Bangladeshi Hindus into Assam, claiming that all Muslim residents are legitimate citizens with proper documentation.
Islam further attacked the ruling party by suggesting that the Bengali Hindus welcomed by BJP have been illegally obtaining Aadhaar cards. With the new policy, these individuals will be required to present records at DC offices, who he insists hold genuine documents. He emphasized the need for improved arrangements at these offices to avoid long waiting times.
Expressing concerns over recent eviction drives, Islam argued that the government targets landless individuals under false pretenses. He claims that those being displaced have centennial records proving their residency. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed plans to tighten Aadhaar issuance, limiting it to adult citizens and aiming to curb illegal immigration effectively. These measures, highlighted Sarma, will be discussed in an upcoming Cabinet meeting, with tea plantation workers exempt from the new policy. (ANI)
